Frequently Asked Questions about the Online Version of the Tuesday Envelope

Bullet Will I still receive a paper envelope?

Yes, you will still receive a paper envelope. Some items such as hot lunch balances and day care bills cannot be placed on the electronic version of the Tuesday Envelope. In addition, sometimes we will choose not to include a flyer on-line and instead stuff it in the paper envelope. Bullet Do I have to sign the paper envelope?

Yes, we need you to sign the paper envelope to indicate that you have examined the contents of the paper envelope and that you read the materials on-line.

Bullet Why aren't all of the flyers on the electronic version?

Sometimes people who want items posted in our Tuesday Envelope will provide us with copies that they made at their expense. In this case, we will distribute the flyer in the paper envelope and not include it on-line.

Sometimes people forget to send us a soft copy of their flyer. In this case, we will include the flyer in the paper envelope and not include it on-line. Scanning the flyer takes time and makes the file size of the electronic version too big for our users who use dial-up connections

Bullet Can I get both an electronic copy and a paper copy?

Yes, you can opt to receive a paper copy and an electronic copy. This option works well if you like receiving material in paper, but you want to be able to check archive copies of the Tuesday Envelope.

Bullet What software do I need to view the Tuesday Envelope? What hardware will I need?

You will need a PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can obtain Acrobat from the Adobe website. You will also need a printer to print flyers that you may need to return to school, see "What if I need to send a response to a flyer back to school? Can I do that electronically?"

No, we cannot accept response to materials in the Tuesday Envelope electronically. If you need to make a response to a flyer in the Tuesday Envelope, you will need to print the page that you need to send in and give it to your child to transport it to school.

Bullet Are the posted materials secure?

Yes, the Tuesday Envelope materials are uploaded to a secure portion of our web site server. The materials are restricted to users with a valid password. E-mail addresses (usernames) are validated by our school staff to ensure that only people in our community can access our Tuesday Envelope materials.

Bullet When is the deadline to get materials posted on-line? How do I get something approved to be posted in the on-line version of the Tuesday Envelope?

We need to receive all soft copies by 3 PM the day before the Tuesday Envelope goes out to include it electronically. Any material received after the deadline will be included in the paper envelope and not on-line.

Bullet Where do I send flyers that are approved to be posted to the On-line Tuesday Envelope? What format should I send the flyer in?

Please send approved materials to TuesdayFlyers.2007@sjcschool.org. We prefer that you send us a PDF of your flyer. You can use a program such as CutePDF Writer, which is free, to make your own PDF. If you send us a Word document, it may not be formatted to your liking depending on your font choice. If you want to make sure that your format stays the same, send us a PDF with the fonts embedded.

Bullet How long are items kept viewable on the on-line website?

Currently, the materials for the whole school year are available. As time progresses and we see how big our weekly file sizes are, we may change the length of time that archives are maintained.
