LIFE - Legacies In Faith and Education

April 2008
Dear Friends of St. Joseph's,
We begin this letter by offering our utmost gratitude for the past and constant support from the St. Joseph of Cupertino Community. In November, you generously contributed more than $60,000 to the development (endowment-type) and special project funds of the LIFE (Legacies In Faith and Education) Program. Using these funds, St. Joseph of Cupertino School will be able to protect our investments, offer support to our families, and upgrade our school plant. We are already seeing the results - minimal tuition increases over the past two years.
Yet, we still need your help. Did you know that each year St. Joseph's provides financial aid through our three scholarship programs to more than 10% of our student body? These scholarship programs enable us to live up to our identity as a Catholic school, rather than a private school. We are here to educate the children of our community and each year, through these funds, we are able to reach out to our parish families who otherwise could not afford the full tuition.
St. Joseph's has three memorial scholarship funds that directly assist families from our own student body:
The Fr. Leo Rooney Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of a former pastor of St. Joseph of Cupertino Parish who died at age 49 after a very short struggle with cancer. His family initiated a scholarship fund to benefit families of St. Joseph of Cupertino School as a testament to his love for children and commitment to education.
Seven years ago, a beloved sixth grade student named Nick Kelly died in a tragic automobile accident. In a heroic act of generosity, his family donated his organs to five recipients. In an additional act of amazing goodness, family and friends initiated the Nick Kelly Memorial Scholarship Fund for our school.
The Dick Caldwell Memorial Scholarship Fund was established three years ago in honor of a longtime parishioner who was the father and grandfather of many graduates from our parish school. Leaving behind a legacy of complete dedication and service to God, Dick's family knew that he would want to continue to help families in need and established this scholarship after he passed away.
During this Easter Season, we ask you to join with the Rooney, Kelly, and Caldwell families in helping us to live out the legacy of Catholic education in our parish by supporting our Scholarship Fund Drive. Due to the growing financial need among our school families, we have granted almost $60,000 in financial aid this year. Can you help us keep our doors open to all deserving families in our community? Any gift you make will be deeply appreciated.
Enclosed is a brochure describing our LIFE Program and the funds under its umbrella campaign. Be assured that 100% of your gift goes directly to the fund you designate; none is used for administrative overhead. Donations are tax deductible, and can be spread over several payments, using our pledge program. For more information about the pledge program, contact our school office.
In closing, please know how grateful we are for your generosity to our school. We keep you constantly in our prayers.
Sincerely,
Rev. Gregory Ng Kimm, Pastor
Mary Lyons, Principal
