SJC's Multi-Faceted Approach to Learning

"St. Joseph of Cupertino School Offers
The Very Best Education For Your Child"

St. Joseph of Cupertino is a Catholic, parish school.  We are a Kindergarten through Eighth Grade School, with an average class size of 32-35 students in each of these nine grades.  Our mission is to educate the children of our community.  We are able to offer many additional learning opportunities for your child because of our commitment to providing a comprehensive curriculum and to using our resources wisely.  We have been able to add program and staffing services while other schools have found it necessary to reduce services.  St. Joseph of Cupertino offers the following for your child.

1)  Your child will be taught by a credentialed teacher at all grade
levels; each teacher has a classroom aide.  Grades Kindergarten
and One have full-time aides; Grades 2 through 8 have aides all
morning (some of our aides are also credentialed teachers).

2)  In addition to our classroom teachers for Grades K-8, your child will have specialized teachers/instructors in the following subject areas (and all of these instructors have classroom aides):

  • Science
  • Technology (a fully equipped lab, a mobile laptop lab, a wireless campus, and computers in the classrooms and library)
  • Spanish
  • Fine Arts
  • Music
  • Library
  • Physical Education

3)  Your child will go to specialized classrooms/labs for science,
technology, art, and library.  We have full use of our parish
gymnasium and field for physical education.

4)  Your child will be offered many opportunities for smaller group instruction through the use of support staff, specialized teachers, split classes (e.g., one half of the class goes to library; one half of the class stays with the teacher for in-depth instruction); curriculum “stations,” and parent volunteers.

5)  We have maintained our commitment to offering full services in our
school library, our fine arts program, and our physical education
program
for your child.

6)  Your child will experience our commitment to outreach and community service, which permeates everyday life within our school.  You and your child will be offered many opportunities to put our faith into action.

7)  In addition to participating in a challenging academic curriculum in all subject areas, your child may be able to take advantage of many of our special programs:

  • Advanced Math/High School Algebra:  A credentialed teacher offers a challenging advanced math program to high achieving/gifted students in Grades 4-8;  8th grade advanced math students are taught high school algebra so they can test into second year high school math when they enter high school.
  • Math Intervention:  Students who need additional support to master certain math concepts are provided with small group instruction by the math intervention instructor.
  • Reading Enrichment:  Higher achieving students are offered challenging lessons by a specially trained teacher.
  • Reading Intervention Program:  Students in Grades K-3 are offered additional small group instructional time in reading (taught by a specially trained, credentialed teacher) to ensure that they are reading at grade level.
  • Specialized Reading Resource Program:  Students who display specific learning issues in reading are provided with one-on-one tutoring by a specially trained tutor.
  • Spanish classes are taught at all grade levels, Kindergarten through eighth grade.
  • Credentialed Special Education Tutor:  Parents/teachers may request specialized testing.  A report is written and an individualized education plan is developed.
  • On-site tutoring services available:  For the convenience of families, we offer the services of an on-site tutor at prices significantly lower than other tutoring centers.
  • On-site Family Counselor:  Families may choose to utilize the services of a licensed family therapist.  The school is willing to subsidize the cost of these services (however, confidentiality is observed at all times between counselor and client).

8)  Your child will also be invited to participate in many extracurricular programs:

  • Academic Decathlon Team
  • Sports Teams
  • Band
  • Student Council
  • Music Ministry/School Choir
  • Homework Club/Study Hall
  • Lectors/Altar Servers for Parish Liturgies
  • Liturgical Dance/Movement
  • School Newspaper
  • Yearbook
  • Chess
  • Origami
  • Scouts
  • Cheerleading

9)  Extended Day Care Services are offered from 7:00 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. and from after school to 6:00 p.m. each day that school is in session
