Bullet 6th Grade Class Retreat: The Refugee Experience

A few weeks ago our 6th graders attended an all day retreat learning about the Refugee Experience. Representatives from Catholic Charities came and led an eye-opening presentation for us on the plight of refugees. We participated in activities that helped us understand the lack of food, material things, resources, and rights that refugees experience.

A refugee from Myanmar (Burma) shared her personal story of how she escaped and survived many hardships before coming to the United States. We even shared a special lunch - a traditional recipe from Zimbabwe - to get a small taste of how it must feel for refugees to go to a new place and get used to new foods and traditions.

We began and ended the day in prayer for our sisters and brothers all around the world, that we may "Love our neighbor as yourselves" as the Lord commands us. It was an amazing day, which wouldn't have been possible withouth the help of: Mr. Sean Sullivan, Mrs. Yvette Moss, Mrs. Christina Maes, Mrs. Ruth Cvitkovich, Mrs. Augustine Arifin, Mrs. Min Choi, Mrs. Tamar Sloan, Mrs. Amy Metevia, Mrs. Pati Curiel, Mrs. Emmy Glumac, and Mrs. Sharon Larson.
