On April 21 the students, parents, faculty, and staff surprised Ms. Lyons with Principal Appreciation Day. Here are Ms. Lyons' comments about the event. On April 21, your children and the school faculty and staff surprised me with Principal Appreciation Day. And I emphasize the word “surprised.” I was at a meeting in the morning and I got delayed. The students were waiting patiently for me in the Parish Hall. When I finally arrived, Mrs. Hill told me that there was a problem in the Parish Hall with one of the Auction backdrops we had rented. When I walked in, there were 300 students, the school staff, and several parents waiting for me. The Student Council presented me with an outstanding “WASP” EVALUATION REPORT (taking a cue from our recent WCEA/WASC Evaluation Report; WASP stands for “Western Association of SPARCCLing Principals”). The Student Council Officers served as members of the WASP Committee, and their evaluation presentations were very touching. I feel so humbled by their words. Each class also sent a representative to read a tribute over the microphone. What Strong Communicators they all are, from the youngest Kindergartner all they way through every single grade. The Performance Choir sang a gorgeous rendition of “You Raise Me Up,” with our 5th grade "resident" pianist playing piano, Student Council Assistant Commissoner General on cello, and with Mrs. Belloni directing. Our students (and staff) are so impressive! The Student Council then presented me with very cool S.F. Giants and SJC Jaguar/SPARCCLS gifts, including a Jaguar computer mouse, a personalized SJC plaid book bag, an SJC plaid framed WASP Evaluation Certificate, an S.F. Giant jersey, an S.F. Giant antenna ball, an S.F. Giant Gift Card, all kids of goodies to eat at the ball game, and a star basket to hold our heart/stars for Morning Assembly. Then the teachers continued the celebration with a fun luncheon (cheese enchiladas and berry pie - my favorites!). They carried through on the theme by giving me another baseball jersey (and pennant), but this one is for the Chicago Cubs! That is because I am traveling to Chicago this summer. I hope to go to a Giants vs. Cubs game while I’m there, but I think I’ll have to stay true to my Giants and wear the S.F. jersey to Wrigley Field. GO, GIANTS! GO, JAGUARS! Thank you to all for making this day so special, and most of all for making this SJC Community SPARCCL every single day. |
