School Board Parking Lot Safety Agreement
In our continuing effort to ensure the safety of students at St. Joseph of Cupertino School, we ask families each year to review the parking lot safety rules. Acting upon the recommendation of the W.C.E.A./W.A.S.C. evaluation team, the SJC School Board set up specific parking lot rules, a traffic flow pattern, and increased monitoring of the parking lot during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Please review the parking lot rules, traffic flow pattern. In addition, please inform all drivers in your family that they must abide by these guidelines.
TRAFFIC MONITORS
Traffic monitors wear an orange vest and a whistle to enhance their visibility and audibility. Please follow the directions of these individuals. We are well staffed in the mornings and afternoons with monitors who report all violations to Mrs. Hill. Violations are reported at the monthly School Board Meetings.
Please do not socialize with traffic monitors while they are doing their job.
SPEED BUMPS
Speed bumps act as a further reminder to drive slowly on school grounds. Please pay attention to the colorful signs which are posted around our parking lot. They are a reminder of our safety motto created by the children:

BUSINESS BUILDING (Entrance by Comerica Bank/Cap Gemini)
When entering or exiting the school via the Comerica Bank entrance on De Anza Blvd., please keep to the right of the tree in each direction. Use caution as you transition between the school parking lot and the Comerica/Cap Gemini parking lot.
We ask that cars coming from Stevens Creek alternate with cars waiting to turn near the tree.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP
Do not park or stop at the red curb at any time during morning drop-off or afternoon pick-up--even for the purpose of other business or deliveries. Also, do not park facing the sliding gates in front of the Parish Hall (unless in a designated parking space) as this is the drop off area. When bringing children to school, park in stalls and accompany them across the parking lot to the sidewalk.
All SJC students must be walked to the sidewalk by an adult (before school) and must be walked from the sidewalk to the car (after school).
THIS APPLIES TO ALL SJC STUDENTS - NO EXCEPTIONS!
The only places to drop off children in the morning (without accompanying them) are:
- the Drive Through Drop-off area in front of the Rectory;
- in the stalls adjacent to the grassy field (students must walk on the track next to the parking lot).
See map below. At the Rectory drop-off point, parents may drive though and drop their children off at the sidewalk. When picking up in the afternoon, park in stalls and walk to the sidewalk to accompany children across the parking lot back to your car.
PARKING
Cars should be parked in marked stalls. Please park your car in the correct direction in the stall. Do not park in the opposite direction because exiting becomes more difficult and dangerous. Parking, or stopping, at the curb is prohibited as it is a fire lane. Please do not park in the reserved spaces (“Auction Winner” and “Scrip Winner”) at any time. Please do not park in the handicapped space unless you have a handicap placard.
PERPENDICULAR PARKING FOR STAFF
Staff members park in perpendicular formation along the two boundary lines marked by perimeter fencing. Please leave these two areas free for faculty and staff parking.
