Dear Members of the St. Joseph of Cupertino Community,
We begin this letter by expressing our sincere gratitude for supporting our L.I.F.E. (“Legacies In Faith and Education”) Program since its inception seven years ago. We conduct our Annual Development Drive each November, and as a result of your amazing goodness, we have reached our goal to establish a healthy development (endowment-type) fund for our parish school. Our objective to use the interest and dividends from this Development Fund to directly benefit all school families is also now a reality. By adding the interest income from this fund to our budget in the last two school years, we have minimized increases to our in-parish tuition rate to only 2.4% and are now able to better support salary increases for teachers. Through your good-hearted and thoughtful gifts, we have an additional source of annual income for our budget and a healthy financial aid program for active parishioners who cannot afford the full tuition.
Having a healthy Development Fund has never been an end in itself for us here at St. Joseph’s. We only see this Development Fund as a way to help us live out our philosophy, our Catholic identity. In establishing long range plans we immediately saw the dilemma that the future held for us. We need to pay teachers higher salaries as a matter of justice and in order to retain the very best staff, but we also need to stabilize tuition for our families, lest we become only a school for the well-to-do. If this were to happen, we know we might as well close our doors, for we would no longer be a truly Catholic school.
We must continue to be good stewards of our resources and protect this Development Fund against inflation. The deposits received from our Annual Development Drive will be added to the fund, safeguarding it for the future. We invite you to continue to be a part of this “L.I.F.E. plan.” By partnering together we can ensure that St. Joseph of Cupertino Parish will be able to provide affordable, quality Catholic education for generations to come.
We certainly are aware of the challenging economic times we are encountering. If you find yourself in a financial position to give, please know how grateful we will be. If your situation precludes giving at this time, know that we understand. In any case, may we ask that you keep our mission and our children in your prayers?
